Almost everything written about a Macau sauna explains how to get to the door and how to get home afterwards. Very little explains the part that actually decides whether you enjoy the night: the building itself. A Macau sauna is not a single room with hot rocks in it. It is a multi-floor club — a bathing hall, a changing floor, a dining room, a lounge full of recliners, and a corridor of private treatment rooms — and your entry ticket buys the run of most of it.
Here is the walkthrough, room by room, with what each of the eight venues we book actually has.
The shape of the place
Nearly every venue follows the same sequence, and once you know it the building reads itself: reception → changing room → bathing hall → dining → lounge → treatment room → rest area. You move through it in that order on a first visit, then drift back and forth between the lounge, the dining room and the bathing hall for as long as you stay.
The one venue on our list that does not follow this shape is Clube Rio, and it is worth saying plainly: Clube Rio is a karaoke club on the third floor of Hotel Rio, not a sauna. Crystal chandeliers, a rose wall, private rooms in several sizes — a very good night out, but there is no bathing floor and no rest lounge in it. Everything below describes the seven sauna venues.
Reception and the wristband
You hand over your shoes, register at the front desk and receive a wristband. That band is your key and your tab: it opens your locker and every drink, meal or add-on you take inside is written against it, settled once at checkout. Nothing is paid room by room.
At East Castle Spa, the desk states the arrangement up front — as of August 2026, the minimum spend to change and enter is MOP 1,728, and that figure already includes a full-body massage plus the complimentary food and drinks inside.
The changing floor and lockers
The changing room is where the venue quietly shows its budget. You get a full locker, a robe or a set of house shorts, slippers, and towels — you do not need to bring anything except yourself.
Manhao Spa is the clearest example of the tone: a calacatta marble feature wall, dark wood lockers with gold-toggle pulls, bench seating. Number Nine Spa runs wooden lockers in a clean, orderly grid. Both venues opened in 2026, so the hardware is genuinely new rather than refurbished.
The bathing hall — the actual sauna
This is the room in the photograph at the top of this article, and it is the part nobody writes about. The bathing hall is where the visit begins properly: shower stations along one wall, a warm immersion pool in the middle of the floor, and a heated sauna room off to one side. You shower first, soak second, sit in the heat third, and cool off in the water again. Twenty to forty minutes here is the norm, and it is the reason the venues are called saunas at all.
The halls differ more than you would expect:
- Empire Sauna built its centrepiece around a marble bathing pool, warm ambient lighting and a full sauna suite — the whole wet area was new-build in May 2026.
- Manhao Spa finished its bath area in dark mosaic tile and green-veined marble, with multiple shower stations and a compact immersion pool.
- Majesty Spa trades on scale: spacious pools, soft lighting, and the most lavish fit-out of any venue in the city.
- Shang Pin Spa inside Lisboeta is bright and immaculate rather than dim, and it is the one venue built around a Japanese-style bubble bath as its signature.
- The Excellent Sauna has a smaller hall than the big rooms, which some guests prefer.
Dining — a real kitchen, not a vending machine
Every sauna venue includes food. Not a snack tray: steak, soup, seafood, fried rice, noodles in broth, pork, lamb, sandwiches, with soft drinks, juice, coffee, tea, milk tea and Red Bull alongside. Spirits and wine are charged separately. Empire Sauna and Manhao Spa both serve it in a proper marble-finished dining room rather than a canteen, and at The Excellent Sauna the kitchen runs from the noon opening straight through to the small-hours close.
You can eat before your treatment, after it, or twice. Nobody hurries you.
The rest lounge and the recliners
The lounge is the most underrated room in the building — a dim, quiet space of reclining chairs where people sleep, watch the screens, or wait out a rainstorm. Every sauna venue on our list has one, free with entry.
Manhao Spa calls its version the starry-sky lounge, a dark room of recliners lit from above. Shang Pin Spa makes the point more bluntly: its lobby recliners are meant for sleeping through to morning. Above the free lounge sits a paid tier — a private rest room with a door — available at Empire, Manhao, Shang Pin, Number Nine, Majesty (in peak season), East Castle and The Excellent (during opening hours). East Castle Spa also has a free sleeping area that sits between the recliner lounge and a private room.
Treatment rooms and theme rooms
The private rooms are where the service happens, and they split into two families.
Standard treatment suites are hotel-bedroom quality: an oversized bed, sofa, controllable lighting and sound, and an en-suite bath. At Shang Pin Spa every room has its own private bathtub. Empire Sauna and Manhao Spa both run signature waterbed rooms — Empire’s inside hotel-grade themed suites, Manhao’s a red waterbed under a single spotlight, built into the same suite as the bed so you never relocate mid-session.
Theme rooms are a separate discipline, and Macau is unusually good at them:
- East Castle Spa is the originator, with over 20 scenario rooms — prison and interrogation room, classroom, hospital, ambulance, gym, coach bus, aircraft cabin, restaurant, office, golf course, boxing ring, car wash — each with its own set dressing, props and costumes.
- Majesty Spa runs more than ten designed rooms, including Egyptian, Chinese wedding-bed, gym and boxing, medical and cosplay themes.
- Number Nine Spa takes the atmospheric route — mood-lit ambient rooms in red, pink-purple and blue-violet, with starry-sky ceilings and round oversized beds in selected rooms.
- The Excellent Sauna treats the theme room as an upgrade: a DJ room, cosplay room, office, cinema or hospital set, added to a spa treatment for MOP 440 as of August 2026.
- Shang Pin Spa has no theme rooms at all, and does not pretend otherwise — its case is the bubble bath and the room quality.
What “overnight” does and does not mean
Overnight here means the building stays open and you stay in it: bathing hall, dining room and lounge remain available, and you sleep in a recliner or a private rest room. It does not mean a hotel room, and it does not mean the service floor is running — therapists work a shift that ends around 06:00 at most venues, while the venue itself keeps going.
Two venues cannot do it at all. Manhao Spa runs 14:00–06:00 and closes at six, so as of August 2026 there is no overnight stay there. The Excellent Sauna runs 12:00–04:00 — the earliest opening among the venues that close and a 4am close, never 24 hours — so it, too, ends the night at closing.
Which venue has what
Facilities and hours as of August 2026; the fee column reflects the current (18 September 2026) price boards:
| Venue | Hours | Overnight | Theme rooms | Fees |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Empire Sauna | 24h | Yes | Themed suites + waterbed | +5% service + 5% tourism tax |
| Manhao Spa | 14:00–06:00 | No | Waterbed suites, no themes | +5% + 5% |
| Shang Pin Spa | 24h | Yes | None | +10% |
| Number Nine Spa | 24h | Yes | Ambient mood rooms | +10% |
| Majesty Spa | 24h | Yes | 10+ designed rooms | Service charge included |
| The Excellent Sauna | 12:00–04:00 | No | Yes, +MOP 440 | 5% + 5% already in price |
| East Castle Spa | 24h | Yes, free sleep area | 20+ scenario rooms | Service charge and tax already in price |
| Clube Rio (KTV club) | 19:00–04:00 | No | Themed private rooms | Service charge and tax already in price |
One line deserves emphasis, because it is misreported constantly: Empire Sauna’s displayed prices are before fees — a 5% service charge and a 5% tourism tax are added at checkout, so budget the extra 10%. The venues where the number you see is the number you pay are Majesty Spa, The Excellent Sauna, East Castle Spa and Clube Rio, whose board prices already carry the service charge and tourism tax.
What the entry price covers, and what it doesn’t
The entry tier — the “clean sauna” line at the top of every menu — buys the building: locker and changing floor, the bathing hall, the dining room, the free recliner lounge, and a defined stay window. It does not buy a treatment. Massage and spa work are priced separately by style and duration, chosen after you arrive.
The clearest illustration is Shang Pin Spa: as of August 2026, a guest who takes no massage package settles the MOP 999 bathing tier plus 10%. Everything above that line is optional. Ranges and tiers move, so treat any figure you read online as an indication — the current menu confirmed when you book is the one that counts.
What booking through us changes
Three things, all as of August 2026:
- No entrance fee. The door charge venues normally levy is waived on bookings made through us.
- Free private transfer. A seven-seater private car, anywhere in Macau, both directions — not a shared shuttle. The mechanics are on the shuttle page.
- Free add-on services from the in-house list (back scrub, leg, head, foot, hand massage, manicure, pedicure, ear cleaning). Empire Sauna, Number Nine Spa, Manhao Spa, Shang Pin Spa and The Excellent Sauna give two; East Castle Spa and Majesty Spa give one. Clube Rio, being a karaoke club rather than a sauna, has no add-on menu and therefore no add-on perk.
FAQ
Do I need to bring a towel, slippers or a change of clothes? No. Locker, robe or house shorts, slippers and towels are all provided at the seven sauna venues — arrive with nothing but your ID and a payment method.
Is the bathing hall included, or charged separately? Included in the entry tier at all seven sauna venues as of August 2026, along with the lounge and the dining room. Treatments are the separate line.
Can I visit just for the bathing hall and the food? Yes. The entry tier exists for exactly that, and at Shang Pin Spa it is stated on the menu. Therapist hours run late afternoon to early morning, so a daytime visit is a bathing-and-eating visit.
Which venue is best if I want to sleep there? Any of the 24-hour houses — Empire, Shang Pin, Number Nine, Majesty and East Castle, as of August 2026. East Castle adds a free sleeping area between the lounge and a private room; the others offer free recliners plus a paid private rest room.
Are theme rooms an extra charge? It depends on the venue. At The Excellent Sauna they are an add-on of MOP 440 as of August 2026; at East Castle and Majesty the themed rooms are part of the service you select. Confirm at the desk before your room is assigned.
Before you go
Pick the building that matches the night you want: a bathing hall and a bed until morning, a corridor of scenario rooms, or a quiet afternoon start. Compare the venues side by side on the ranking page, read the visit flow end to end in the first-timer guide, check the practical questions on the FAQ page, or tell us your date, headcount and rough budget on the contact page and we will match venue, car and timing in one pass.
