The Macau Sauna Hour Starts When She Opens the Door: What Happens to You in Sixty Minutes
The door opens, the therapist walks in, and the sixty minutes of a Macau sauna session count from there. Washed on the waterbed first, then oil on the dry bed beside it, a hot towel, and at the end she helps you bathe again. An order that starts at the toes and oil laid thin over everything before any pressure. Manhao's rooms have the waterbed, and Empire's on the nights you choose that room.

You are sitting on the edge of the bed in the house robe when the door opens and the therapist walks in. A Macau sauna session is sixty minutes, and they are counted from this moment, not from the time you spent in the house before it.
Here is the shape of the hour before any of it happens. At Manhao, and at Empire on a night you chose the waterbed room, it has four parts: she washes you on the waterbed with soap and water, you move to the dry bed beside it for the oil massage, a hot towel cleans you, and at the end she helps you bathe again. At the other houses it starts with the oil on the dry bed and ends with the towel. You do not have to remember any of it. She leads, and you follow.
The first thing she asks is whether you want it light or firm, and it is the only question she asks. After your answer the pressure follows your body, staying longer wherever it is tight. The robe comes off, and she is the one who takes it off. That is the moment a first-timer’s shoulders climb. There is nothing to hide here, and closing your eyes is enough. You lie face down and a towel lands across your hips.
On the waterbed there is no oil yet, only soap and warm water, and the lather starts between your toes. It climbs from each toe to the sole, the calf, the thigh, the waist and the back, and each press sinks the bed under you and lets it rise again a breath later. You only lie there, and this is where the body lets go for the first time.
When the lather is rinsed away you move to the dry bed beside it. In a room with only a dry bed, this is where your hour begins. The first pass presses nothing, because she lays a thin coat of oil from ankle to shoulder over everything. So that nothing cold ever lands on your back, the oil is warmed in her palms first. Before any pressure there is only warmth and scent, and the body stops feeling like a set of parts. From here until the towel her hands never fully leave your skin, because one settles on the next place before the other lifts off the last.
The oil, too, begins at the toes. She starts at the farthest part of you and calls it back first. She draws each toe from its root to the tip, opens the sole one patch at a time, and moves up to the calf. Every pass takes some oil into the skin, and before it can feel dry more is warmed and added, so nothing ever drags.
She takes the thigh from the back, then the outside, then the inside. On the outside her hands cross the same stretch until, on one pass, it gives under them. Before the inside, your legs are parted a little. This is where a first-timer stops breathing. The knots are on the inside, and with your eyes closed there is nothing for you to do. As far as the leg opens, that far her hands reach, and the whole leg goes light.
When the leg goes light her hands travel up, settle on the glutes, and pause there. A whole day in a chair shows itself the moment her hands rest there. This is not a place she pushes into. It is a place she waits, with her hands on one point until it lets go on its own. The lower back eases first, and then the weight of a whole day of sitting sinks down toward the bed.
When it is time to turn over she lets you know, and you simply turn with her hand. She moves the towel for you.
The stomach gets the lightest touch of all, stroked in one slow direction. She moves up to the chest, which she passes through in order like any other place. The underarm is where a first-timer curls up at the tickle. She only passes through, and her hands are already on the arm.
She runs each arm from the shoulder to the wrist in one long line, opens the palm, and draws the fingers out one by one to the tip. “Toes to start, fingers to finish.”
What she is watching now is your breathing. It is longer and slower than when you came in, and that is her signal. When the breath changes, all that is left is the finish. As for you, it has been a while since you last wondered which minute this is.
Her hands leave your skin once in the hour, to pick up the hot towel, and they come straight back with it. She wipes from the neck down, arms, stomach, legs, and reaches the soles last, so the wiping ends where the order began. Up to this point you have not moved once on your own.
In the waterbed room there is one more part after the towel, and to take the oil off she helps you bathe once more.
When you stand up out of the water you are light, and everything a week had put into your shoulders and lower back has gone out of you at once. You are still warm, and you walk more slowly than you came in, not because you are tired but because you do not want it to end yet. By the time you reach the door you are already thinking about the next one.
When the door opens for the second time, she is the one who opens it. She waits for you to stand, and outside the door she hands you to someone from the house, who takes you to the recliner lounge, where a different masseur takes over. The free add-ons that come with a booking through us happen in that lounge. The house’s list has back scrub, foot massage, head massage, ear cleaning and a manicure, and you decide which once you are sitting there. At Manhao it is two of them, 20 minutes each.
Which shape your hour takes depends on the house. Manhao’s rooms have the waterbed. Empire has it too, on the nights you choose the waterbed room. Houses whose own menus carry an oil or aromatherapy series include Shang Pin, Number Nine and East Castle. How you choose her at each house is in the four ways you choose. On a booking through us a free private car meets you at your hotel entrance and the same car brings you to the house door, and the walk from there is in the first-timer’s guide.
Two questions about the inside of the door
”Does the hour include the baths and the choosing?”
No. It is counted from the moment she walks in. The baths, the steam and the choosing are your own time, inside opening hours, for as long as you like. In the waterbed room she washes you first and helps you bathe again at the end, so there is no need to shower for her.
”What time should I be there?”
Manhao opens at 14:00 and its therapists are on from 14:00 to 06:00. Empire is open 24 hours, with therapists on from 14:00 to 06:00. Tell us when you expect to arrive and we plan around that time.
One line is enough
Tell us the date, how many of you, which hotel, and whether you want the waterbed room, in one line on WhatsApp or LINE, and we arrange the private car to your door, free when you book through us. Get in touch here.
The sixty minutes that started counting when she came in end in the water. The toes where the lather first rose are the first thing she rinses again.
